Room Compass

Room Compass

Room Compass is a navigation device designed to create a comfortable and safe environment for visually impaired individuals in unfamiliar spaces. Whether the user is in a hotel, hospital, or rented apartment, Room Compass helps ensure independent access to all the amenities in the space.

Room Compass

The primary goal was to create a device that enables visually impaired individuals to easily navigate a new environment without assistance. We needed to develop a remote control that would allow users to quickly locate important points in the room, such as restrooms, outlets, telephones, and exits, thereby increasing their comfort and independence.

Room Compass

For the development of Room Compass, we studied the everyday needs of visually impaired individuals, particularly their experiences navigating unfamiliar places. The device was designed with ergonomics in mind to ensure it can be comfortably held and used by touch. The remote works in conjunction with audio tags placed in key locations within the room. Through voice prompts, Room Compass helps the user quickly and accurately identify the location of marked points.

During the prototyping phase, we experimented with various shapes and sizes of the remote, aiming for simplicity, intuitive use, and ergonomics. In close collaboration with visually impaired individuals, we conducted testing, gathered feedback, and made improvements to the functionality of the remote and audio navigation.

Room Compass

As a result, we developed a compact and user-friendly navigation remote that can function in any environment. Room Compass provides quick and accurate spatial orientation, allowing visually impaired individuals to feel comfortable and safe.
